A really good friend in the best of intentions went to see the new project of a new media art group in Athens Medea Electronique, a group of which i was a member a few years back and left on not such a good terms, since i thought that creativity in this type of collectives is being suffocated. Bellow are his comments on the actual show of which i ve seen videos and unfortunatelly can t say i disaggree...:(
"Wow!!!............ that was shit!!!!!!! i do not understand what is happening with the new media arts in Greece, the people ending up promoting their work just barely make it to do something presentable. Judging also from the people involved and the resources, that could have been something, having had creative energies behind these projects... I think this is strike three for this residency and this collective...
i mean there were more interesting and progressive stuff happening in Europe and Greece on '96!!!
the sounds were so crude the choreagraphies indifferent (the dancers seem to be bored!!!), i am sure the audience was...
i don t know what to say, a total dissapointement for the media arts in greece....
there seem that certain individuals of the collective can do well on their own, but all together they produce something very crude and amateurish.... this years there were university proffesors, renount video artists and all but still the result was insufficient and honestly to little...:(
it is as if people are holding themselves back and are not offering what they can for the outcome.... maybe it has to do with the organiser, i can t understand... maybe smaller number of participants that actually work together would have been more creative and would produce a better result...
maybe there is no salvation since the group seems to not have an aesthetic identity..."
we will talk for actual interesting projects in the future, unfortunatelly this was not one of them.....
