Bardo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bardo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "The Tibetan word Bardo means literally 'intermediate state' - also translated as 'transitional state' or 'in-between state' or 'liminal state'. In Sanskrit the concept has the name antarabhāva.

Fremantle (2001) states that there are six traditional bardo states known as the Six Bardos: the Bardo of This Life (p.55); the Bardo of Meditation (p.58); the Bardo of Dream (p.62); the Bardo of Dying (p.64); the Bardo of Dharmata (p.65); and the Bardo of Existence (p.66).

Shugchang, et al. (2000: p.5) discuss the Zhitro (Tibetan: Zhi-khro) teachings which subsume the Bardo Thodol and mention Karma Lingpa, terma and Padmasambhava and list the Six Bardo:

In the terma discovered by Karma Lingpa, Guru Padmasambhava introduces six different bardos. The first bardo begins when we take birth and endures as long as we live. The second is the bardo of dreams. The third is the bardo of concentration or meditation. The fourth occurs at the moment of death. The fifth is known as the bardo of the luminosity of the true nature. The sixth is called the bardo of transmigration or karmic becoming.[1]"

Johnny Chung Lee - Projects - Wii: "Johnny Chung Lee > Projects > Wii

As of June 2008, Nintendo has sold nearly 30 million Wii game consoles. This significantly exceeds the number of Tablet PCs in use today according to even the most generous estimates of Tablet PC sales. This makes the Wii Remote one of the most common computer input devices in the world. It also happens to be one of the most sophisticated. It contains a 1024x768 infrared camera with built-in hardware blob tracking of up to 4 points at 100Hz. This significantly out performs any PC 'webcam' available today. It also contains a /-3g 8-bit 3-axis accelerometer also operating at 100Hz and an expandsion port for even more capability. These projects are an effort to explore and demonstrate applications that the millions of Wii Remotes in world readily support.

Any software on this page is primarily meant for developers and may not run without proper the development tools installed. Downloading and installing this software is at your own risk, and no support or guarantee is provided with this software. The official discussion forums for my wiimote projects can be found here: WiimoteProject.com

NOTE: For most of these projects, you don't need the Nintendo Wii console. You only need the Wii controller and a bluetooth connection."

Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote

Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. The display properly reacts to head and body movement as if it were a real window creating a realistic illusion of depth and space. By Johnny Chung Lee, Carnegie Mellon University. 08Z1Z4TessReally

08Z1Z4TessReally: "When you told me that you were
going to show me a tesseract, I
thought you were going to point to a
stand-alone geometric figure, Steve."

A hypercube is not a geometric figure, but a collage of different sizes of cubes superposed on each other.
The numbskulls of relativity inadvertently have converted this ‘movie of an inflating cube’ into a static
‘solid.’ When Sagan says that he cannot show you a tesseract, it is not because we unfortunate 3-D
beings are stuck in Solidland. The reason has to do with the fact that we are not looking at a static
sculpture. We are looking rather at a statue that is getting bigger by the minute and we are attempting to
visualize it in a single frame of the film. The reason we cannot visualize or see a tesseract has nothing to
do with our limitations as 3-D beings. It has solely to do with the fact that relativists are presenting an
irrational hypothesis. The tesseract is its own contradiction, a self-falsification.

Hypercube

Hypercube: "Return to Drew's Home Page Hypercube

A friend of mine was reading a book about the fourth dimension and was having a hard time visualizing hypercubes, so I wrote a program so he could play with a hypercube interactively.

The user can rotate around the hypercube, or perform direct-manipulation rotations in 4D.

For a 4D rotation, the 3D vector described by the dragging of the mouse in the plane of the screen combined with the 4D unit vector (0 0 0 1) specify two basis vectors of a four-dimensional plane of rotation.

This is a lot more intuitive than a set of sliders.

Before I show an example of the 4D rotation, wrap your head around this simple 3D rotation of a regular old cube.

In the above sequence, the red square is the back face of the cube. It's smaller than the other squares because it's farther away from the viewer. As it the cube rotates around 90 degrees, the red square becomes a trapezoid.

Here's the hypercube. Instead of a bunch of squares connected together, it's a bunch of cubes all fused into a big weird mess."

Rotating 4D Hypercube

Rotating 4D Hypercube: "Rotating 4D Hypercube

Rotating 4D hypercube (GIF movie).

Imagine a person who lives in 4 spatial dimensions, watching a hypercube rotate. The 4-dimensional person has a 3-dimensional retina in each of its 2 eyes (two eyes suffice for depth perception, even in 4D). Each retina records a 3-dimensional image.

This image shows what the 4-dimensional person sees, with the extra dimension shown as a variation in colour. That is, the horizontal, vertical, and `colour' directions correspond to the 3 directions on the 3-dimensional retina of the 4-dimensional person. The vertical bar to the right of the picture shows the correspondence between colour and position in the extra dimension.

This is a `false colour' image, because the colour corresponds to something other than true colour. Of course our 4-dimensional friend undoubtedly sees in true colour as well...

* Rotating 4D spacetime hypercube (47K GIF movie).
* Both 4D hypercube movies together."

The hypercube: Exploring the fourth dimension, and further

The hypercube: Exploring the fourth dimension, and further: "With apologies to those who know all about the hypercube, this is written for those who don't, to indicate the interesting shapes you can get in 3D by extending 3D mathematics into an imaginary fourth dimension. I first learnt of this from Prof. A K Dewdney's 'Computer Recreations' column in the April 1986 issue of Scientific American.

Let us imagine that another Big Bang created a 2D universe and we are 2D critters living in a plane world. We come to appreciate our position in relation to x and y axes at right angles, can perceive points, lines, squares and circles and can do Pythagoras. Our 2D mathematicians (2DMs) can rotate a point about the origin with two equations looking like 'SUB rot' in the QBasic code in Listing 1. As it rotates, the new x and y co-ordinates each depend on the old x and y, and the angle of rotation. We might consider that the simplest square has its corners at the four points (x,y) = (1, 1)

Simulated reality - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Simulated reality - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "Simulated reality is the proposition that reality could be simulated—perhaps by computer simulation—to a degree indistinguishable from 'true' reality. It could contain conscious minds which may or may not know that they are living inside a simulation. In its strongest form, the 'simulation hypothesis' claims it is possible and even probable that we are actually living in such a simulation.

This is different from the current, technologically achievable concept of virtual reality. Virtual reality is easily distinguished from the experience of 'true' reality; participants are never in doubt about the nature of what they experience. Simulated reality, by contrast, would be hard or impossible to distinguish from 'true' reality.

The idea of a simulated reality raises several questions:

* Is it possible, even in principle, to tell whether we are in a simulated reality?
* Is there any difference between a simulated reality and a 'real' one?
* How should we behave if we knew that we were living in a simulated reality?"

Cube 2: Hypercube - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cube 2: Hypercube - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "Cube 2: Hypercube is the sequel of the science fiction/horror movie Cube. Released in 2002, Hypercube had a bigger budget than its predecessor, and a new director, Andrzej Sekuła.

The industrial-style rooms of the first movie are replaced with high-tech, brightly-lit chambers; the plausible technology of the traps—flamethrowers and extending spikes—are replaced with floating objects with razor-sharp blades and translucent walls that decompose matter. The Cube Rooms, that the main Cube is composed of, are not separate entities that move but simply the same Cube in different times. Different chambers inside the tesseract also distort gravity, time and space, leading to alternate realities."

Ouspensky, particularly his book Tertium Organum where it is frequently quoted. Scientific American writer Martin Gardner mentioned this book in some of his articles. [1] A New Era of Thought also had impact on Rudy Rucker's book The Fourth Dimension (book). [2] It is prefaced by Alicia Boole and H. John Falk. A New Era of Thought is inspired by Plato's allegory of the cave and is influenced by the works of Immanuel Kant, Carl Friedrich Gauss and Nikolai Lobachevsky. The book has xvi and 230 pages."

SO(4) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In mathematics, SO(4) is the four-dimensional rotation group; that is, the group of rotations about a fixed point in four-dimensional Euclidean space. The name comes from the fact that it is (isomorphic to) the special orthogonal group of order 4.

In this article rotation means rotational displacement. For the sake of uniqueness rotation angles are assumed to be in the segment [0,π] except where mentioned or clearly implied by the context otherwise.

Tesseract - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tesseract - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "In geometry, the tesseract, also called an 8-cell or regular octachoron, is the four-dimensional analog of the cube. The tesseract is to the cube as the cube is to the square. Just as the surface of the cube consists of 6 square faces, the hypersurface of the tesseract consists of 8 cubical cells. The tesseract is one of the six convex regular 4-polytopes.

A generalization of the cube to dimensions greater than three is called a “hypercube”, “n-cube” or “measure polytope”. The tesseract is the four-dimensional hypercube, or 4-cube.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word tesseract was coined and first used in 1888 by Charles Howard Hinton in his book A New Era of Thought, from the Greek “τέσσερεις ακτίνες” (“four rays”), referring to the four lines from each vertex to other vertices. Some people have called the same figure a “tetracube”, and also simply a 'hypercube' (although a hypercube can be of any dimension)."

the ease of Unigine engine

it is amazingly beautiful the fact of how easy it is to create complex graphix with Unigine. it helps u concentrate on the actual creation of your scenes. i was playing around with particles last night and in minutes i had a really complex scene (comparing with apps like processing, vvvv) to control and design logic for.

Match moving - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Match moving - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In cinematography, match moving is a visual effects technology to allow the insertion of virtual objects into real footage with the correct position, scale, orientation and motion in relation to the photographed objects in the scene. The term is used loosely to refer to several different ways of extracting motion information from a motion picture, particularly camera movement. Match moving is related to rotoscoping and photogrammetry. It is sometimes referred to as motion tracking.

Match moving is distinct from motion capture. The latter is a technology for recording the motion of objects, often human actors, in a controlled environment with special cameras and technology. The former is a software technique applied to normal footage that can be recorded in uncontrolled environments with ordinary cameras. This article defines match moving as the art of extracting motion information from actual footage, where additional cameras, motion capture sensors, and motion control photography are not necessarily used.

Match moving is primarily used to track the movement of a camera through a shot so that a virtual camera move can be reproduced by a computer system. The intent is that when the virtual and real scenes are composited together they will come from the same perspective and appear seamless.

Match moving is now an established visual effects tool.
